Some of our students reading The Young Quills Historical Fiction books before they decide which book they would like to see on the shortlist! The competition is held annually, both to recognise good historical fiction writing and to encourage youngsters to develop a love of history and a feel for the period they are studying. Previous winners include Jacqueline Wilson, Hilary McKay, Barbara Henderson, Jill Harvey, Paul Dowswell, Theresa Breslin and Laurence Anholt.

THE TIME IS NOW! Our Big Build Student Board has come up with a fantastic idea to get every student involved in raising money for our project to build a dedicated sixth form centre at Becky High. A 60th birthday present if you like! Students have been asked to commit to raising £60 before May 15th. This could be via bake sales, sponsored runs or silences, tutoring, selling crafts, car washes or whatever they decide is right for them! There's even an incentive – the first form to raise £60 per person will win a pizza party and a non-uniform day for the entire form. Please support your child in their fundraising endeavours and help them raise Sixty for 60 by May 15th! All funds raised will be added to our Big Build total which currently stands at £566k. Go TEAM!

The Becky High Cheer team travelled to Birmingham on Sunday for the Legacy Dream Extreme Competition. Five years. Zero losses. One unstoppable team. With the standard higher than ever this year, our team rose to the challenge - finishing 1st place and staying undefeated for 5 years straight. With 28 students now in the squad this is the largest squad we've ever had! We love seeing so many students enjoying the sport.

Thank you to Dr Ricci and Mrs Morrison for sharing these photos taken during their annual RS trip which this year, was to Amsterdam. The students explored various themes, from religious faith (both Jewish and Christian) to resistance and oppression. In particular, they were able to examine these themes in light of the Holocaust: they visited Corrie ten Boom Museum where they learned about this remarkable figure who helped hide Jewish people from Nazi persecution; they also had a guided tour of Camp Vught, a Dutch concentration camp where victims of the Holocaust were interned before being transported East. #cocurricular #RS #beaconsfield #grammar

BHS World Book Week is over for another year and we'd like to thank everyone for getting involved! Not only did we have a lot of fun with Manga artist, Sonia Leong, the Bucks Book Award, Poetry by Heart, dressing up, book and bake sales, Literary Lucky Dip and the Banned Book Club, we also raised over £1000 for @bookmarkreading, a literary charity delivering essential reading support and resources to the children who need it most. #books #reading #cocurricular #beaconsfield #grammar

On Sunday we celebrated 60 years of Becky High with 120 alumnae and former staff, and what a day we had! The day began with tours of the school led by our current Year 10, 11 and 12s followed by a prosecco drinks reception in the SFSA. Lunch was served by our students at 1pm in the main hall to the sounds of the string ensemble and one of our choirs. Amanda ('66) and Hilary ('88) spoke about their time at Becky High, former staff shared their memories via a pre-recorded film and Ms Bond and Millie (former Head Girl) spoke about life as it is today! And of course, a birthday lunch would not be complete without a birthday cake and a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday! Guests were asked to write a 60th birthday card to the school which we will display to current staff and students. Commemorative tote bags and hanging ornaments were taken away as a reminder of both the last 60 years and a lovely trip down memory lane! Dr Ricci and Mrs Morrison regularly hold lunchtime sessions which offer students the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential learning: yesterday they experienced what it would be like to take part in a Seder meal as part of the Jewish festival of Pesach. They were able to link what they learned in class in terms of religious symbolism and practice with real-life objects (e.g., Seder plate) and foods (e.g., matzah, maror, charoset). Ultimately, this makes sure that the students' experiences and mindsets are broadened by literally tasting what other cultures/religious traditions offer!
