  • Admissions and Apply

At Beaconsfield High School Sixth Form, students typically study three A-Level subjects, which is the standard pathway for university entry. Alongside their academic studies, all students participate in our Enrichment Programme, which offers a wide range of opportunities to develop leadership, independence, and skills valued by universities and employers.

While some students may choose to study four A-Levels, this option requires careful consideration. Universities generally base offers on the three highest grades, and taking four subjects can increase workload and pressure, potentially impacting overall performance.

Choosing your A-Levels is an exciting chance to shape your future. Start by selecting subjects you enjoy and do well in them. These are often the ones where you’ll thrive. Think about how your choices align with your university or career ambitions. Some degrees require specific A-Levels, so it’s important to check entry requirements early. If you're unsure, a balanced mix of subjects can help keep your options open. Students considering a STEM-related degree at a highly competitive university may wish to take Further Mathematics as a fourth subject.

    Entry Requirements

The entry requirements are the same for current Year 11 students at Beaconsfield High School and those applying from other schools.

Students are required to achieve a minimum of 46 points from their best eight GCSEs, including a minimum of GCSE Grade 5 in both English Language or English Literature and Mathematics. In addition, students must meet the entry requirements for each of the A-Level courses for which they have applied.

To be eligible for four A-Levels, students must achieve at least 64 points from their best eight GCSEs. For more information about the A-Level curriculum and entry requirements, please refer to our A-Level Options Guide below.

Admission is also subject to availability within the chosen classes and depends on whether the selected combination of courses can be accommodated within the school’s timetable.  Please refer to our Admissions Policy here for more information.

    A-Level Options

Students must enjoy what they are going to be studying; two years is a long time and the hard work and dedication required to ensure success has to be balanced with real enthusiasm and motivation. Enjoyment comes when we spend time doing what we are good at, so we encourage students to consider carefully where their strengths lie. A description of the A-Level options we can offer can be found in our A-Level Options Guide below. However, the offering differs year-on-year depending on how many students sign up for each subject, staffing and our option blocks.

    Admissions FAQ

Are the entry requirements the same for external applicants as they are for existing students?

The application process and requirements are the same, although every applicant is reviewed and considered individually.

What is the dress code for sixth formers?

The Becky High Sixth dress code is designed to allow students to express their individuality and personal style within the confines of a school environment. Students are encouraged to look smart at all times. Leisurewear, including leggings and hoodies, is not permitted. The full dress code can be found here.

I’m thinking about taking a fourth A-Level. What do I need to consider?

We highly recommend that only the most able students, achieving at least 64 points from their best eight GCSEs, should consider taking four A-Levels. You should consider all other commitments, as the results for your best three A-Levels should remain the priority.

Where can I find your Sixth Form Admissions Policy?
