Today we hosted a Primary School Basketball Event with the help of Full Court Connections. Year 8 students are learning about the different forms of design in theatre production. They have just finished looking at puppetry and have learnt the National Theatre's key conventions of breath, weight and focus. The students then used the NT's 'brown paper man puppets' (a key resource to train professional puppeteers) to create a simple puppeteered scene with clear storytelling. #KS3 #drama #nationaltheatre

At the beginning go the week, a group of Year 9s spent the day at @oxford_uni at a maths workshop the aim of which is to inspire students to take maths at a higher level. Yesterday, a group of Year 12s also spent the day there taking part in lectures, problem solving and meeting a panel of undergraduate maths students. #maths #GCSE #alevel #beaconsfield #grammar

Congrats to GCSE Food Tech students, Sophie and Skye in Year 10 who, in Mr Rea's words, 'made the best Year 10 Chocolate Soufflés of the last 5 years!' An accolade indeed!

This morning, our Year 12 Sports Leaders hosted a Panathlon Challenge for four local schools! Message from Mrs Seal, our Librarian: Enter the @towerpoetry Competition, the UK's most valuable prize for young poets. The competition is free to enter and it is open to students between 16 and 18 years of age who are educated in the UK. The competition is judged by two guest judges and the Christopher Tower Student, Dr Anna Nickerson. Each year the theme is chosen with the intention of giving entrants free rein to interpret it as widely as they like. The poet who writes the single best poem on the theme receives £5,000. There will be a second prize of £3,000, and a third prize of £1,500. Along with these, there will be ten runners up, who will each receive £500. We are super proud of Florence in Year 8 who was awarded the Mayor's Youth Award just before Christmas. Florence was recognised for creating a positive environment at Becky High and for playing a vital role in supporting the new Year 7s during their summer camp in August. Florence also painted Kindness Rocks which she left in Maddy's Garden for other students to find, and has represented us at Bucks Mental Health participation days. An afternoon spent sorting thrift donations for our January Thrift Store! The store will run in the main hall in January and all funds raised will purchase revision books for our forever charity, Kachieng Secondary School in Kenya! We are still accepting donations, you can drop bags into main reception from January 5th.

We set ourselves a £500k target to reach by Christmas and.......WE DID IT! Thank you to every Becky High family that has made a gift and helped us to reach this amount. The next challenge is to reach £1 million by the time we break up for Easter - here's to our final £486,258 ! Congrats to our wonderful Friends of BHS who have raised over £19k this term (September - December) via the Year 7 and Year 8 discos, Quiz Night, the foreign currency collection and of course, the Christmas Fair! This small group of parents work incredibly hard in their free time to raise money which funds equipment and resources for our students. But not only that, their work also brings parents and students together, instilling a real sense of community at Becky High! Thank you!
