We were incredibly fortunate to secure ballot tickets to attend the Poetry by Heart Grand Finale at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London on Monday. The seven student finalists from our school competition enjoyed an unforgettable trip, with the opportunity to watch the national finalists perform in the stunning setting of the Globe. Special guests included Matt Goodfellow, Kate Wakeling, Alice Oswald, and Frank Cottrell-Boyce. The experience was both inspiring and memorable, leaving our students enthusiastic about taking part in the 2027 Poetry by Heart competition.

During our recent Enrichment Days, Year 10 students took part in the Community Action Project, a three-day initiative designed to develop key skills beyond the classroom while making a positive contribution to the community. Working in self-selected teams, students identified a genuine need within the school, Beaconsfield, or the wider local area. They then researched the issue, planned a response, and created a project outcome aimed at making a difference. The project concluded with each group delivering a presentation to their peers and a judging panel, showcasing both their research and the impact of their work. The projects created were astonishing in both their ambition and scope, positively impacting areas of the community ranging from a local care home to our own Wellbeing Hub and Butler's Court Primary School.

Twelve of our students were lucky enough to attend the Global Citizenship Conference at Sir William Borlase Grammar School, where we collaborated with students from six other local grammar schools. Throughout the day, we took part in mixed-school 'Think Tank' sessions, where we explored real global issues such as artificial intelligence and climate change. We heard from keynote speakers including Dr Uyiosa Ogunbor and Rahil Hashimi as well as a Question Panel with experienced professionals from many different fields of work. We finished the day with each 'Think Tank' presenting their findings and proposed solutions to the rest of the conference, showcasing the value of collaboration and fresh perspectives in tackling global issues. Congrats to Haniya and Ruhi who are winners of the Henrietta Branford Writing Competition for their pieces called 'Home' and 'My Indian Home'. The competition aims to find and encourage writers of the future, something Henrietta was always keen to do and we are very proud of both students! Here they are reading extracts from their respective pieces. The winners were officailly announced at the Branford Boase Award ceremony yesterday!

Year 12 Biologists enjoyed a trip to the Oxford Museum of Natural History and Oxford Botanic Gardens last week! The students took part in a lecture in one of the university lecture halls and got hands on with some Madagascan hissing cockroaches! After their creepy crawly experience, students explored the botanic gardens discovering giant water lilies, carnivorous plants and a rich history of medicinal plants. #cocurricular #biology #alevels #beaconsfield #grammar

Next Friday (10 July) the Charities Prefects and the PE Department are running a Summer Splash event on the astro at lunchtime to raise funds for the charity Keep a Girl in School (KaGiS). Watch this to discover the amazing work this charity does for young women living in Kenya!

Join us on Friday 3rd July for the inaugural House Performing Arts at the Wycombe Swan. The evening is a celebration of iconic woman to mark 60 years of Becky High. Each house will tell their story with performances directed by our talented y10 students. This will be interspersed with dance, drama and music. Everyone is welcome!
